1979 American LaFrance / Chevy Pumper
This pumper was designated as the original Engine 3211 when it was purchased new in 1979. This
truck was built on a Chevy C-70 chassis with a standard transmission, gasoline engine, and a single
bench seat. The truck was an "assembly line" truck built by American LaFrance. The truck carried 750
gallons of water and had a 1,000 GPM pump. This engine was taken out of service in 1998 when it
was replaced by the 1985 Pierce Engine. The truck was sold to the Bangs Fire Department in Texas
for $14,950 where it is probably still in service today.
Here is a picture of the 1979 American LaFrance engine operating at a training
exercise on Lester Road in the town of Phelps. Life Member Dick Guard is shown
operating the pump.
