1973 GMC Rescue Truck
This truck was a 1973 GMC step-van which was primarily used for transporting
manpower and equipment to emergency scenes. The department purchased this
truck from Robsons Garage in Geneva in 1975 for $3,250. The picture below shows
the truck during the 1980 Oaks Corners Fire Department parade. You will notice that
back then the truck did not have dual rear wheels as it did in the top photo which was
taken shortly before the truck was taken out of service. The dual wheels were added
as a safety measure after the truck went for a bit of a wild ride while responding to a
chimney fire on Bohner road on a very windy day. You will also notice that originally
the truck had the older style beacons and siren on the front of the roof. This truck
was taken out of service when replaced with the 1980 Rescue Truck. The truck was
sold in 1995 to Stu Josner for $1,002.00.
