Multiple Departments Battle Structure Fire in Border City
On September 17, 2011 at 4:30pm, the Oaks Corners Fire Department was requested to respond with the Border City Fire Department to a reported structure fire at Trouts Auto Recycling at 2410 Edwards Road in the Town of Waterloo. Border City was on location with a working fire and smoke was visible from the Oaks Corners firehouse. Oaks Corners was requested to respond with a tanker and Rehab assignment. Pumper/Tanker 3231 responded as a tanker and Rescue 3271 responded with a rehab crew.
Chief Maney responded and was the first Oaks Corners unit on scene. He met with Chief John Morabito who had command of the incident. The rehab sector was to be established just north of the scene in a private yard. Chief Maney met with Waterloo Chief Mike Reese who asked that we use Pumper/Tanker 3231 as a pumper and supply Seneca Falls Quint 1431 via a portable pond operation. 3231 set up three portable ponds with three jet siphons and supplied Quint 1431 for almost two hours.
Oaks Corners Engine 3211 was requested to the scene as we had problems maintaining a draft with 3231. Engine 3211 staged at the scene, but was never used. The Lyons Fire Department responded to the Oaks Corners firehouse with an Engine and operator for stand-by duty. The rehab crew remained on scene for almost six hours with assistance from the Border City & Waterloo Fire Department Auxiliaries. Photo's by OCFD Photographer Rick Maney
