Oaks Corners Firefighter Thomas Swart recently received the Rays of Light Servant Leadership Award at State
University College of Technology at Morrisville. Tom is an interior firefighter with the Oaks Corners Fire Department
and also volunteers with the Morrisville Fire Department while in college.
Tom is the son of Oaks Corners Firefighter Ed Swart and his wife Donna. He is a 2005 graduate of Midlakes High
School, an Eagle Scout, and is also a Junior Assistant Scout Master in Troop 46 in Phelps. At Morrisville, Tom is a
member of the men’s lacrosse team and was also on the football team before being sidelined with a shoulder injury.
He has been named to the deans list and receives an academic merit scholarship. Tom studies information
technology and network administration.
The rays of light Servant Leadership Award recognizes a student of junior status who provides selfless & ongoing
service that substantially benefits others, and has made a unique and exceptional contribution to the community
through selfless volunteerism fostered by an independent and generous spirit. Winners of this award receive $700
of which $200 is to be donated to the Oaks Corners Fire Department new building fund.
