On July 14 2011 at 10:41am the Oaks Corners Fire Department was dispatched to 331 Cross Road in the Town of Phelps for a reported garage fire. Automatic mutual aid from the Geneva & North Side Fire Departments were also dispatched. Oaks Corners Engine 3211 immediately responded from the Border City area, where they were tied up on a hose testing detail. Deputy Chief Mike Reifsteck was the first unit to arrive on scene and reported flames showing from the garage that had two vehicles inside.
Pumper/Tanker 3231 was the first unit to arrive on scene and was directed to park in the driveway. A 1 3/4" attack line was stretched to the garage. Engine 3211 arrived and was directed to supply TP 3231 via a portable pond operation which was already being set up by North Side Tanker 1941. Geneva Engine 1111 was third due and sent manpower to the garage to assist with extinguishing the fire.
Chief Brian Maney assumed command of the incident and Deputy Chief Reifsteck took over Operations. A fill site engine, tanker, and ambulance was requested from the Phelps Fire Department as well as a tanker from the Border City Fire Department. A crew from Oaks Corners Heavy Rescue 3272 assisted with forcible entry of one of the overhead doors and a crew from Rescue 3271 took care of traffic control.
The fire was extinguished with 750 gallons of water and was declared under control 15 minutes after dispatch. Ontario County Deputy Fire Coordinator Ralph DeBolt assisted on scene with the fire investigation. The fire was accidental in nature. Town of Phelps Code Enforcement Officer Ed Clark also responded to assist.
