On Saturday July 3rd at 0810 hours the Phelps Fire Department & Phelps Ambulance were dispatched to the trailer park at 1403 Ridley Road for a report of a small helicopter that had crashed into a mobile home. A secondary call to the 911 Center reported that the trailer was on fire at lot 8.
Phelps Firefighter Pat Phillips was one of the first firefighters to arrive on scene and reported that there was a trailer fire and that the helicopter was not involved, but it had landed behind the trailer. Phelps Chief John Dole arrived on scene and requested mutual aid from the Oaks Corners Fire Department.
Oaks Corners Engine 3211 arrived on scene and firefighters from Phelps & Oaks Corners stretched a pair of 1-3/4" attack lines to the fire. Phelps Engine 2131, Tanker 2141, and Rescue 2171 arrived on scene soon after. Oaks Corners Pumper/Tanker 3231 & Rescue 3272 remained on stand-by in station. The OCFD responded with a total of 13 firefighters under the direction of Chief Maney.
The helicopter had spotted the smoke while flying over the trailer park, and landed to alert the residents and report the fire.
