On July 2, 2008 at 1528 hours, the Phelps Fire Department (with automatic mutual aid from the Marbletown Fire Department) was dispatched to 1510 Gifford Road for a report of a shed fire threatening a garage. Phelps TP-2131 went enroute shortly after dispatch and reported heavy black smoke being seen from the Village of Phelps. Phelps units arrived on scene within minutes to confirm a single story shed fully involved, along with a neighboring 1 1/2 story garage in flames. TP-2131 parked roadside in front of the residence and began fire attack operations. A portable pond was set up and TP-2131 drafted while supplying attack lines.
The Oaks Corners Fire Department was requested to the scene immediately thereafter. Oaks Corners TP-3231 & Engine 3211 responded with a crew of 12 under the direction of Lieutenant Tim Bragg. Phelps Engine 2121 set up a fill site at a hydrant on Mill St. in the village for the Phelps, Marbletown, & Oaks Corners Tankers. The Clifton Springs & North Side Fire Departments were placed on stand-by in their stations during the incident.
The fire in both buildings was quickly extinguished and called under control by Phelps Command at 1550 hours. Oaks Corners Firefighters utilized their Pro-Pack foam proportioner to extinguish any hot spots. The fire is currently under investigation.
