House Destroyed by Fire in Junius.
On June 10, 2008 at around 1050 hours, the Junius Fire Department was dispatched to 1294 Whiskey Hill Road for
a report of lightning striking a barn with flames showing. Shortly after calling enroute, the Junius Fire Department
requested that their automatic mutual aid be dispatched. This brought out a full response from the Oaks Corners
Fire Department as well as a tanker & FAST Team from the Border City Fire Department.

First arriving units on the scene reported a working house fire. The Magee Fire Department was requested to set up
a fill site for tankers at the corner of Rt. 318 & Whiskey Hill Rd. Tankers were also requested from Magee &
Waterloo. The Clyde FD was requested to send  a stand-by crew to Junius station #1, and the North Side FD was
requested to stand by in their station for Oaks Corners. Temperatures in the 90's with high humidity kept firefighters
from being able to work for long periods of time. To supplement the manpower, additional firefighters were
requested to the scene from Clyde & Waterloo.

The Oaks Corners Fire Department responded with Engine 3211, Tanker-Pumper 3231, Rescue 3271, and Special
Operations Unit 3262. A crew of 8 firefighters responded under the direction of Asst. Chief Maney for the first half of
the incident, and then Chief Reifsteck for the second half.

Engine 3211 set up a dump site for tankers, and supplied Junius Engine 703 with a 4" supply line for the duration of
the incident. Tanker-Pumper 3231 was used as a tanker, and delivered several loads of water. Special Ops Unit
3262 was called later into the incident to provide equipment for firefighter rehab due to the extreme heat. Oaks
Corners firefighters sent a crew to the roof for vertical ventilation, but had stop half way through the operation due
to flame impingement and weakening of the roof. Crews then assisted with exterior firefighting operations.
