Single Vehicle Accident Results in Minor Injuries & Technical Rescue
On 04/20/11 at 11:32am the Oaks Corners Fire Dept. was dispatched to Lester Road just north of McIvor Road for a report of a vehicle over the embankment. The initial report was that the driver was not injured, but not able to exit the vehicle. Chief Maney arrived on scene within a few minutes and reported a vehicle down a twenty- foot embankment with the driver still in the vehicle. There was a swollen creek on one side of the car with water flooding on two other sides. Chief Maney requested Phelps Ambulance to the scene.
Engine 3211 arrived on scene and deployed a safety rope down the embankment along with three firefighters under the direction of Lt. Scott Loomis. Chief Maney requested Heavy Rescue 3272 to the scene with the stokes basket and rope equipment. Firefighters used saws and hand tools to remove trees and vines from around the vehicle. The patient was loaded onto a backboard, placed into a stokes basked, and firefighters used ropes to help bring the stokes basket up the embankment. The patient was loaded into Phelps Ambulance and transported to the hospital.
